Description

Lightbox digital titles come packed with fully integrated media features, including embedded videos, slide shows, child-safe weblinks, contextual key word definitions, and the entire body of the text read aloud. Unique features of Lightbox enable students to virtually visit locations with Google Maps. Lightbox helps students learn with layered transparencies of maps, diagrams, charts, and timelines. These digital resources let readers with different learning needs and styles experience the same concepts. The videos allow visual, audio, and English language learners, along with struggling readers, to experience the concepts in the book in a way that is more appealing and effective for them. The slideshows provide a way for learners to take in the essence of the concepts and review, while the weblinks allow learners to explore concepts further. Lightbox is optimized for all devices.

Currently, the subscription services feature 339 Grades K-2 titles, 449 Grades 3-5 titles, and 233 Grades 6-12 titles. Lightbox Subscriptions allow schools and libraries to choose a subscription plan that matches their needs. New titles are added to each subscription throughout the year. Prospective users can easily sign up for a free 30-day trial to ensure that Lightbox Subscriptions are right for them.

Review Highlights:

Lightbox is classroom ready for the digital age. It's a solid solution for flipped and regular classrooms. The K-12 content is vast, conveniently organized and searched, mapped to Common Core Standards, and ready to go. The interactive e-book platform allows students to learn independently and explore topics using a wide variety of multimedia on any device. For exmample, in addition to reading about nimbostratus clouds, 3rd graders can watch an animated video narrated by a talking cloud, or view a slideshow with concise text. Supporting activities (PDFs) are easily accessible to be assigned as homework or classwork, and child-safe links extend the learning and discussions beyond the presented material. The read aloud feature is a nice add-on, but the voice is very robotic so we chose not to utilize it. We also appreciated the handy citations - great for research papers/bibliographies. A Lightbox subscription is a powerful supplement to any curriculum and a great addition to any library.
