Description
WORD SPLICE - A new word forming card game for kids and families that is easy to learn and fast fun to play! Imagine a card game that is a cross between Scrabble and Rummy. The deck has 84 letter cards and 6 wild cards. The deck is shuffled and each player starts out with seven cards. The first player takes his or her turn by placing down any words they can make from the cards in their hand. Wild cards can be used to complete words as well! When the turn is over, the point value of each word in play is counted and added to the player's score, and then that player draws back up to seven cards. Brand new words get double points! The next player can then put down their own words, and also SPLICE letters into existing words to make new words! Wild cards in play can also be swapped into the current player's hand if he or she can exchange the existing letter for a new one and still make a word. When there aren't enough cards left for the player to draw back up to 7 cards, the last round begins. After each player takes their last turn, any cards left in hand are subtracted from that player's overall score. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins! Additionally, there are also five versions of WORD SPLICE Solitaire included in the rule book.

Review Highlights:
This game is fun to play, especially if you like language. It has 2 formats for individual and 1 for group play, with the formats sufficiently different from each other that 3 games are available in this one set of cards. Although scoring is available, the games can also just be played as a word-making game. The cards themselves give information about scoring that aids in decision-making if playing in a competitive style, where some strategy comes more into play. Cards and box are attractive and seem relatively sturdy.
We love playing Word Splice! It's a great option for something educational and fun that can be played on road trips, at sleepovers, family game night, everywhere. Players collect points based on the words they form from their deck of cards, and can receive double the points for a new word. There are 'Wild Cards' that can be used in place of any letter to give players an advantage. Check it out!
Cards need to be thoroughly mixed before each game as otherwise too many of the same letters tend to accumulate in a hand. As cards are sturdy, shuffling is a little difficult. It can be played by up to 6 players but 2-3 gives a better game as each player has more chances to make words.
Fun game to teach kids how to form words, similar to scrabble. It made both my 7 year old and myself think strategically and pull from our vocabulary.
